Ode To Trauma

After years of being an art educator during the pandemic,  the aim of this series is to make visual the stress and turmoil that has so deeply affected our culture.  These works hark on the internal struggle many of us are having, and specifically recall the trauma that has manifested in me as a result.  This work is therapy and acts as the prototype for larger mixed media paintings. 

I want these paintings to be suggestive yet ambiguous enough to provide some sort of abstract narrative.  I want the viewer to look for something recognizable, even though there is nothing intentional in the work to be recognized. They are a little bit like complex ink blot tests intended to call the viewer into their own subconscious.

Digital Expectations

This work addresses the overstimulated digital environment in which we are all living.  We are pressured to learn the latest technology, but we learn it with certainty that it is as impermanent as the technology that required our attention yesterday.  As we fight to stay current, we are expected to manage all of the other responsibilities that came with the last greatest invention.  These digital "paintings" speak the language of chaos in our fast-paced technological world.
